As we become better readers and writers, it is important to explore different "media" or ways to publish our work. This section of the website is where we can write our own thoughts and opinions about things that we are learning about in class. Please feel free to leave a comment and ask us questions!

Looking For Some Advice! Please!

HI! For the people of the earth, I’m Amarnie* in ISNS. As you know, I’m in Grade 4C class, I really like Math class. We’re doing a poster about rock in Science and I’m doing Sedimentary Rock. I hope you enjoy this piece of writing.

I really want to talk about my friend Cathy*and me playing at recess. We always chat in English, but sometime I need to translate in Chinese (Since she doesn’t know much English) and we always play throwing ball to each other.

I’m wondering if someone who read this could give me some advice of what we could play at recess, and some advice for how she could grow better at English.

Grade Four's First Blog!!

Hello, people of the planet! Guess what 4C did today in math class!? We played a game called "Headbands" where you have to stick a secret number on your forehead and your team mates help you guess the number. It is a really fun game! One student's number was 43 and a half!! That was really hard to guess.

Can you tell me a math game that you like to play?

Dear people of the planet,

On Tuesday, November 12 Grade 4C (my class) did a science experiment with Grade 4P. We were growing crystals, because we were learning about rocks and minerals. There were six groups, my group used a string, two paper clips, baking soda, warm water, two glass jars, popsicle sticks , a small paper cup, and a chop stick. First we put baking soda in boiling water, then we used a chop stick to stir it. Kat, our timer, looked at Jo’s watch to see if five minutes was done. It was EXHAUSTING! After we stirred the water it still look like plain water. Then we tied the paper clips to the string and  put it into the water. The next day crystals were growing the string turned blue,  but after that day the string turn white and the string has crystals growing! Some team has crystals some do not some teams water turn yellow.  My team has crystals growing too. Now we are waiting for more crystals to grow I think it will take 3 or 4 days, how about you?

        Marco Polo

Today is the Marco Polo day! I’m so excited! I’ve never been to Marco Polo before! At the end of the school day I ran through the hallway of our school, ISNS to Miss Godkin’s music room where all of the choir members were.
Aren’t you confused? You definitely are! So, let me introduce myself. My name is Miranda*.  I’m nine and I live with my parents, big brother, and my pets. (I have four of them). I have pale blonde hair and green eyes. Now about Marco Polo. Marco Polo’s this five star hotel where we are heading. Who’s ‘we’? You might wonder. ‘We’ is the choir I joined. Marco Polo invited our choir to perform at the hotel!
Now back to the choir. We headed straight toward a gigantic bus that was waiting for us outside of ISNS. We climbed on the bus. Me Liel, Joanne, and Katrina sat together at the back of the bus.
Soon we arrived to the hotel. It was so beautiful with all these lanterns, sparkles, and Christmas trees… Oops! I’m off the subject!
We ate dinner (which was delicious). Then we started practicing. When we were done practicing Miss Zhang showed us our own room. It was called Zeruch (I don’t mind admitting, it was gigantic!) We played some games until it was time for our final performance. The choir walked onstage. We sang, “Children are the Future of the World” and “Here Comes Santa Claus”. In fact, Santa Claus came around and gave out presents. This is my best day ever!

          Sugar Cookies!

Hello out there from Grade 4C!!

We have been so busy in our classroom this month getting ready for the Holidays, we haven't even had time to write in our blog!! So for a quick update, we sang in the Christmas Concert this month and did an AWESOME Christmas Rap. We also had a Yankee Gift Swap and had lots of fun on Sports Day.  In case any of you want to try some yummy Sugar Cookies like we did in class, here is the recipe we used:

You will need an adult, a small mixing bowl, a big mixing bowl, a spoon, a baking sheet, a spatula, frosting or decorations, and an oven.

Ingredience:  1 teaspoon baking soda

         1/2 teaspoon baking powder

         1 cup butter, softened

         1 1/2 cups white sugar

         1 egg

         1 teaspoon vanilla extract

The oven will need to be hot before you start doing anything. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder together. Set this bowl to the side. You will need it later.

Now find the large bowl, and mix together the butter and sugar until it’s smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla.

Slowly mix the ingredients in the small bowl into the big bowl.

Take your spoon and get a spoon full of dough. Roll it into a ball, and place onto the cookie sheet. If you have cookie cutters, you can use them now to make your cookie into a cool shape, like a star!

Repeat until your whole cookie sheet is full of dough and ready to put in the oven!

Put the cookie sheet in the oven with the help of an adult. Bake them for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until they turn golden.

Let the cookies cool on the cookie sheet for at least two minutes before you try to take them off. And be careful! They will be hot!

When your cookie is cooled, take a spoon and put a thin layer of frosting on your cookie. Add sparkles, chocolates, or decorations.

Finally, you can eat your cookie! Bon Appétit (That's the way people say Enjoy in French).

中国新年快乐!

My title is very special today. It is written in Mandarin, and means "Happy Chinese New Year!" Today, all my students are leaving for ANOTHER Holiday, Chinese New Year! Each year has a special animal to celebrate, and 2014 is the year of the horse. There are GIANT horse displays all over the city of Shenzhen to celebrate. There are also beautiful red lanterns, like in the picture above. I think they are so beautiful! If you were born in 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, or 2014, your animal is a horse. According to the Chinese Zodiac, the horse is "sharp-witted, cheerful, aine, open-minded, talkative and talented. Horses enjoy traveling, entertainment and large crowds". Does that sound like you?

Since the last time we talked, our class has been learning about different types of Narrative Stories, and we have started to write a Narrative Story just for you (since it has been a very long time since we have updated our blog). So here is Part One of our story, for your reading enjoyment:

The story begins here: it was midnight, and the park was glowing with its evening light. A young woman was approaching the iron park gate. It was Miss Casey, the ISNS teacher. She stood, looking over the peaceful, quiet park after a long, crazy day in Grade 4C. Suddenly, an ear-piercing ROAR struck the night, and Miss Casey was surrounded by fear. She decided to stay calm, and pretend it was only  tree that fell down... until the bushes trembled and a pair of frightful eyes gleamed in the darkness. Miss Casey stumbled to her feet and took off running. Through the open fields and under the hanging tree branches, she ran until a large, round wall stopped her in her tracks. She sunk to the ground, and stopped to catch her breath. Boy, was she exhausted! "I wonder what that was back there?" she thought to herself. Just then, the large, round wall behind her back began to quake. Miss Casey jumped back and watched as the wall she was resting on slowly transformed into a.... COW!! "W...w..w..what are you doing in the park!?" Miss Casey stuttered. The cow answered with an angry "MOOOOOOO!" and pushed poor Miss Casey off the top of the hill. As she fell, she caught a glimpse of the not-so-peaceful park below her, bustling with movement! She was terrified and confused, and knew she had to find a safe place to spend the night. She slowly crept down the hill, past the fountain full of playful seals and the flower beds scattered with penguins. She quietly slipped through the iron gate, with those gleaming eyes following her every move. When she got back home, she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. What a crazy night!

To be continued....

It’s Anti bullying week! We all need to wear pink! The school is selling lots of stuff like, bracelets, T-shirts, and many, many things! EVERYBODY IS SOMEBODY! But do you know what is bullying? Bullying is teasing, hitting, hurting other people’s feelings, and calling others bad names. No bullying in this nice week! Everyone in the school is going to take pictures and put them in the yearbook. And the whole school will line up outside in the playground and make the four letters, L, O, V, E! It’s love made out of students. Next everyone smiles when the camera was high up in the school’s third floor and say cheese! Their camera took so many pictures down! AND! The class that wore the most pink wins a PIZZA PARTY! But in grade 4C, people didn’t really were so much pink. That was sad! But still, the purpose of Anti Bullying week is to let the bullies know that, STOP BULLYING NOW!!! Bullies if your looking at this, can you please stop bullying?

Writing a perfect Formal Letter

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

International school of Shenzhen, Nanshan
166 Nanguang RoadNanshan District Shenzhen, P.R CHINA510852

Hello, who ever read this. Now we are learning how to write a prefect formal letter. Here is a brilliant example!!!!!

Good day Dad,

I was so tired of cleaning my messy little room! My room has too many toys, books, and stuff. After I clean my room, I have to organize my books on the shelf in my wonderful room! Which will take a lot of time. I was so tired, and tomorrow I still have to go to school. I wish I had more time!

I asked Mom too, but she is still thinking. I was waiting for her advice! I was hoping if you could help me think of an excellent advice. Wait, I got Mom’s advice. Her advice was to give out extra things that I don’t need. I don’t like that advice so now I’m asking you for an advice to help me clean my room. Remember to give me a good advice not a bad or silly advice.

Thank-you Dad! Waiting for a letter of reply.

                                                   Sincerely, Angelina
